I have taken in several wild birds and pigeons over the years. Some with successful results, some not so much. Here's a bit of advice, don't waste your time contacting the city. They don't care. Try searching the web for how to take care of or where to bring any injured or sick animals you may take in.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Fish and Wildlife gives out much better info.
I unfortunately had to bring them the carcasses of 3 Squirrels to test for poisoning yesterday.
Their wildlife biologist is forwarding them up to Albany.
Forget the New York City agencies.
I spent a half day trying to get testing info from them while the carcasses were wrapped up in my refrigerator.
A WARNING TO ANYONE WHO HAS ANY BAD INTENTIONS:
SQUIRRELS ARE A PROTECTED SPECIES IN NEW YORK STATE.
Fines of $10,000 can be imposed on anyone harming a single one.
If it is determined that my 3 Squirrels were poisoned, the DEP and/or the DEC will be testing all adjacent properties (within the approximate 500 foot range of a Squirrel's habitat) and there will be a shit load of fines that any alleged perp will be shelling out(enough for them to have to take out a second mortgage to pay)!
The NYS DEC (and their armed enforcement unit) is located near the Hunters Point stop on the #7 line.
They're great people.
Squirrels are magical little critters and I love to watch them. They can enrich your life.
It is great to know that there are people out there with such kind hearts. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to enjoy wildlife so up close and personal, but if I ever do, I hope I will have enough common sense to do the right thing....

I've had two Squirrels
simultaneously climb
up my pants legs begging for nuts in Union Square Park.
One actually poked his nose
into my pocket where my supply was.
They really are incredibly
cute and resourceful.
Any time I'm feeling down,
I go to the park to have contact with these adorable creatures.
They can redeem a simple sense
of faith and trust even in
a sophisticated city
like New York.

Actually, you should contact a certified wildlife rehabilitator. There are several in Queens.

APEC will give you a list of participating vets who care for wildlife gratis and who'll then release them upon their recovery.
