Why are these even being considered for "Certificates of Appropriateness"? Isn't landmarking supposed to preserve structures permanently? Or is it only until the owner gets tired of it or wants to make more money off of it?

Gosh Mary Beth Betts, you need an extreme makeover.

The LPC has become the stooge /accomplice
of Bloomberg and his real estate/building industry pals and are "following orders" like good Nazis
from Der Mayor and his general staff.

They've become second line traitors
and a scourge of New York City's history!

As for those pampered Village people.....
they can take their lumps along with Queens
for all I really care.
Am I bitter? Yes ....and, I think, rightfully so!

Perhaps a major demo job and the erection
of some fug/ugly buildings amidst their
precious historic district, will make them sympatico,
and appreciative of others' pain.

They never help us.
They only want us to come to their aid
when they snap their fingers to summon us.

One hand washes the other
and what goes around comes around !

Why do they weep? They still have plenty left.
We started out with less to begin with
and lose more and more of it, as each day passes.

Greenwhich Village is entitled to experience
some of the same brand of "demolition democracy"
that we live under in the outer boroughs!

In the eyes of the demo company....
"all buildings (and boroughs) are created equal"

Now I ask you....isn't that fair?

After all, what's good for the Goose
is good for the Gander!

The Village has got to take their share of hits.

That's a laugh. I guess there really is no such thing as landmarking anymore.

These guys do what the inept preservation community lets them do.

We need new leadership in communtiy preservation in NYC.

Leadership with teeth (and balls)

why can't st vinnies reopen st clare's AGAIN as their "midtown division" and reorganize their services instead of all this bs ?
people living in hells kitchen were left high and dry when st clare's closed. Ok it wasn't the latest and greatest big deal hospital but the clinics worked fine and so did the AIDS unit, basic surgeries got done and people got well.

Politics as usual but you can be damn sure that THIS demO plan will not go through.(the WEST village)
They managed to save their homes when roBert moses (may he burn in hell) destroyed lincoln square, parts of harlem ,destroyed the BX,etc.
all he had to declare was "this propert condemned" and bam, your house was gone.
Somehow,they WON.
