Survey: Long Island Population Equal to Chicago

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A new survey shows the population of Long Island has grown to 2.85 million people - roughly the size of Chicago.

The survey by the Long Island Power Authority shows the number of people living on the 118-mile island off the coast of Manhattan increased by 12,000 from 2006 to 2007. There are about 3 million people living in Chicago.

The population of Nassau County grew by almost 3,000 people to 1.35 million. The population of Suffolk country increased by more than 9,000 persons bringing the total up to about 1.5 million.

Just to point out the obvious, LIPA doesn't provide power to the entire 118 miles of Long Island (unless the 118 is only Nassau/Suffolk) since Queens and Brooklyn are located on geographic LI, too.

When we say Long Island, we mean Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Just to point out the obvious, the LPC doesn't seem to do much for the western end, either.
