My guess would be the old Power station on the block next to the Waterfront crab House?
If not, this property rivals it for the King of Architectual Crap design prize. It looks like something an architectual Pratt Insititue freshman submits as a project in their first year and got an F for it. Maybe that same student eventually received a NYS license easy compared to other states) and started out working on Astoria project graduating to this $$ level. The design implimentation is revenge on his professor. A sorry looking project at worse, at best sucking in all the idiots whom will line up to pony up to live here! Ha ha ha....
looks like that abominable building on Curbed when you were guest moderator, I think. Folks on that site are probably praising this thing to no end and counting off the minutes to its completion.
Boy you guys sure dislike designers/architects...But I can understand the anger and frustration. By the way, getting an architectural license is not an easy thing to attain.
Please don't misunderstand our anger. We don't hate all architects and designers. Just the ones who make our neighborhoods unrecognizable by completely disrespecting the integrity of buildings that have been up for centuries, obliterating them and then replacing them with steel, glass and concrete monstrosities that won't last half as long as the original buildings that existed. So, I guess, yeah, we do hate every architect and designer that has ever stuck their greedy little hands into Queens in the past 10 years.
Elisa, Point taken, So what do you suggest? Please understand that many architects/designers do take into account the surrounding context of the neighborhood. And there are those that have a blatant disregard for the character of a neighborhood. Those are "contractor specials" cookie cutter homes that plague neighborhoods. It also comes down to the fact that many developers/builders don't necessarily follow our designs, aesthetically speaking. They may want to cut back on the small architectural elements that would continue the historical character of your community. Instead, they would rather build brick warehouses for people to live in. Building sans these elements(pedimented windows, cornice molding, the use of quoins-actually not the ones that are being pasted on bldgs.)are, in many builders eyes, cost-efficient.
And WHAT was YOUR POSITION "Mr. good architect" at the recent AIA's attempt to bypass proper procedure with their back door opposition of the new side and front lot amendments to NYC zoning rules ?
Give it some thought and don't answer so quickly !
I just find it sad that the norm for buildings going up in the neighborhood I have lived in all my life are shoddily built, asthetically unpleasing Goliaths. Twenty years from now, when these buildings become projects (because that's exactly what's going to happen) and are left to decay, I'll have to TELL my boys about all the beautiful buildings that were torn down for crap, like the Hackett building, etc.

My response is that I am against said amendments...case in point I have been vocal about this before on different posts. For example: https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4013383690175122264&postID=4305660151371135599 https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4013383690175122264&postID=4985554149159256330
There's no more value to the area, realtor/developer, jackass. You've flooded the market with total pieces of crap and have caused people who want to sell their homes to have to do so below market value.
Wow this looks great! Can't wait to move in and contribute to the ever increasing rent and real estate values in this area that will eventually push you grumpy old men out of the neighborhood!

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
The above organizations are recognized by Queens Crap as being beneficial to the city as a whole, by fighting to preserve the history and character of our neighborhoods. They are not connected to this website and the opinions presented here do not necessarily represent the positions of these organizations.

Pratt has a big hand in 'planning' projects in communities at the bid of developers.
They worked with a Goodwill and a carefully selected element from Astoria to try to rebrand Old Astoria Village into Two Coves.
Not a hint of the historic character in the community in the 'study'.
Hey,
an alteration permit is a helluva lot cheaper
than obtaining a new building permit !
What a cheap and greedy bunch of f---s !

If archtitects dont want to painted with the board brush that is being slapped on the profession, maybe
THEY SHOULD GET A LITTLE VOCAL
about the bad apples themselves.

Oh I bet on Queens West and LICNYC they just GUSH about this.
So much for revitalizing our communities by bringing in new people.
We are just tiny little ants from their balconies.

That powerhouse building was a dirty wreck. Now it will be something nice that brings value to the area.
Ms. Corcoran, is that you?

The old men in the neighborhood OWN, asshole. Your high rent won't push them out.
