Here comes the rain again

FLOOD WATCH

323 PM EST WED FEB 6 2008

...ADDITIONAL MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN COULD CAUSE FLOODING THROUGH THE EVENING...

.PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS AS YET ANOTHER AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MOVES TOWARD THE REGION. THIS RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO CAUSE URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING ACROSS THE WATCH AREA.

* PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS IS ANTICIPATED THROUGH THE EVENING. ON AVERAGE...A HALF TO ONE INCH OF RAINFALL IS EXPECTED...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. THE COMBINATION OF RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL RESULT IN URBAN FLOODING...ESPECIALLY ALONG LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. ADDITIONALLY...RISES ON SMALL STREAMS AND FAST RESPONDING RIVERS IS EXPECTED...WHICH COULD RESULT IN FLOODING AS WELL.

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.

FYI: Last Friday the R train wasn't running along Queens Blvd because it was flooded. Be prepared!

When we get flooded with over development
and concrete replaces ground absorbing green spaces
we get a bitch of a payback
in the form of flooded basements and subway lines.

We are what we build
and we seem to be building crap
all over the place!
