Props to Ramin Bahrani for showing the other more real face of Queens. If I didn't know better, I would have thought it's filmed in some third-world country, not in Willets Point.
Actually, it doesn't - I saw the film at Toronto, and I think it shows good reason not too - you see how this is a community where people live and work. It might not be Times Square, but it is home for many. It was an amzing film. I can't wait to see the new taxi film!
George, I think so too...It is sooo convenient to the park and all the attractions(zoo,playgrounds/fields,walking trails along the lake) Not too mention the Hall of Science...Hmmm That's why the city wants the grounds for housing and commercial development...LIRR,stadiums,etc.
This is a realistic and unsentimental look at the lives of countless immigrants from many countries. Amazing film! and even though it may be a bleak view of Willets Point, it ends on a hopeful note: The 'American Dream' works for many (yeah, not always) who work hard....

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
The above organizations are recognized by Queens Crap as being beneficial to the city as a whole, by fighting to preserve the history and character of our neighborhoods. They are not connected to this website and the opinions presented here do not necessarily represent the positions of these organizations.

Wow. It might actually be good, except it perpetuates the image of Willets Point merely a blight to be bulldozed.

This place will be the new hip "in" locale. Watch and see.

Hopefully not coming soon to a theater near us. It should have been set in Iraq rather than Queens.
I lived these streets and this is the way the things go down!!
