Misery Measure 668
The Big Apple is the nation's center for financial services, publishing, advertising and countless other industries, making job opportunities plentiful. But the costs can make all but the super-wealthy miserable. Housing costs are through the roof, and income tax rates are 10.5%, more than twice the U.S. average. Commuting times are also the worst, at an average of 36 minutes each way.
Ranks are based on the 150 largest metro areas.
And this is leaving out some of the most misery-inducing problems - noise, overdevelopment, crappy schools...but, hey, we have great restaurants and exciting nightlife.

the weather would be much less of a concern in NYC if flooding didn't occur, when it rained, due to strained infrastructure.
Amen! Can't wait to pass my registry and get the heck out of Dodge! Too old, to tired and to demoralized by this crazy city! You make the money and it flies out the window, you do not get to enjoy life, take a breather.
On the other hand, New York City has good medical facilities, e.g. Columbia-Presbyterian, Sloan-Kettering, etc. .
Go move to the sticks of Podunk and really come down with something.
Come on, Crappie, post the image that came with the article, the one showing the Queensboro chocked with traffic and smokestacks belching smoke.
Better yet, use it with another article telling us why congestion pricing is so bad.
Forgive me, please I forgot to mention:
1. The Emergency Room at the Astoria General Hospital
2. the Acupuncture Clinic of Dr. Wam Bam Ma'am
3. The Botanica Babalu Aye
Still no have in Podunk.
NY is a great city! It's all about the vibrant culture, night-life and diversity!
Yes, NYC is a center for many industries such as finance, advertising, and publishing, but that doesn't mean jobs are available to the taking.
Many of the big-name employers have difficult to navigate career sites. Often, you have no idea who to address your cover letter and resume to. Usually, those with the connections get the jobs, while the rest of us spend months sending out resumes with no results.
Finding a job can be a job in itself. Unless you have connections to the mayor, good luck finding a job!

Here is one - the mayor's 'girlfriend' is the head of some planning for the Hudson waterfront.
Can Crappie look into this?!?

Yea, lets put up this picture everytime the developers and the Bayside biddies tell us we don't need congestion pricing.
I work in Manhattan. I want emergency equipment to get around fast.
I don't give two sh*ts if LIC becomes a gigantic parking garage. Its better than gigantic buildings that would collapse the infrastucure.
