Speaking of crap there's an awful lot of anti-Queens rhetoric in the comments on that Curbed entry. I wonder how many of the commenters who have a problem with Queens are transplants from the Midwest who came here to go to NYU or the New School.
It's too bulky for that block, and I wish better architectural materials were utilized. Also, where is the green space? Older buildings frequently have recessed entryways, use less land, and better layouts to maximize ventilation. I can say the castle-like decor is original, but will never compare to historical buildings around the boroughs. Who is the architect?
Design was lifted from a first year architectual class from Cooper Union. Looks fit for a retired Merril or Citicorp CEO - fitting rewards for what they are currently causing throughout the country. Hopefully this building will be a direct beneificery of the credit turmoil.
As the guy from the block said, this was built by Greeks, took forever to build, has cheap appliances.
It will undoubtedly become, as everything in Astoria these days, a human warehouse that will further stress the power grid and infrastructure.
But again, the people that call the shots in that community don't care for it outside of what they can squeeze out of it. And the second rate politicians will mortgage the community to the developers so they can run - and lose - for higher office.
Can't you just see some overweight house frau.... in a bathrobe with curlers in her frizzy hair ..... taking the morning air .... while she surveys her domain from her balcony.
Maybe she pauses after she stomps out her cigarette to apply her favorite shade of dayglow red lipstick.
Her doting husband in his "wife-beater" undershirt stands proudly beside her.
H-m-m-m..... all the beginings of a Stephen King novel...... b-r-r-r-r !

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt

looks like a White Castle restaurant. Perhaps they sell hamburgers in the lobby.

This looks like a 3D cheap pop-out
greeting card from a low end candy store!
Where are the jousting knights on horseback
fighting to rescue that fat maiden
before she falls off the balcony trying to escape ?
