The world-renowned Astroland amusement park has a new lease on life.The venerable Coney Island institution, which appeared doomed after its Labor Day closing, will instead reopen for one more season next year under a deal announced Wednesday with the developer behind the neighborhood's planned $2 billion makeover.

The Cyclone roller coaster
and the parachute jump tower
are both designated NYC Landmarks.
The latter was moved to Coney Island
from the 1939 World's Fair.
astro-land is cool, unlike astro-turf -- which rots!
Wonder Wheel is an Individual Landmark, too.
If only Queens' own Eiffel Tower in Flushing Meadows were landmarked. Coney Island is lucky, without landmarking their tower would have simply been let to rust away.
I hope Astroland gets more than a one year reprieve. What memories.
The whole theme park should be landmarked. What is wrong with this city? Don't we have any respect for our past?
Fix it up.... clean it up.... and they will come.
went to the NY Post link but changed my mind about reading the article, even though I was interested in the topic. There were just too many confounded ads on the web page, blinking on and off and extending into the body of the article. Advertisements are fine but this is just too much.
