When you're a tweeding Queens pol (or maybe just geographically challenged), it would seem that the logical place for you to hold your German Octoberfest celebration would be at a Czech beer garden.
Dee Richards will no doubt cover it extensively, and Ms. Schneps will probably write about how it reminded her of the great wiener schnitzel the natives made for her the last time she was in Prague...

I went Oktoberfest 25 years ago in a large open field by the Botanical Gardens. Though I was too young to drink at the time it was pretty neat. Lots of live bands and pretty frauleins in traditional garb.

The irony is that the local politicians once showed up (Bricklayer Onorato, among others) to convince the locals to develop the site in the early 90s.
Only when that group with ties to Vallone that almost ran it into the ground quit, and a new group with no ties to Queens took over, did it thrive.
Perhaps the guys that run Bohemian Hall should be given a shot at running Queens?
Naw, they would interfer with all that tweeding and honest graft going down. They would do things like pick up garbage, clamp down on noise, repair the infrastructure, in short, do all the things they did to convert Bohemain Hall from a White Elephant to a world class tourist destination (sorry, Vicky, despite what you write, that will never happen for 82nd Street, Jamaica Ave, or Main St)
Queens doesn't have any German beer gardens left. The only one we got, in Astoria is Czech. Oh well, close enough.
You'd think that 2 Italian Americans like Vallone and Cuomo would just celebrate Columbus Day and leave the German/Czech parties to people who know how to throw them...

The Bohemia area of the czech-republic is inhabited by germanic peoples. It was annexed by hitler during WWII along with austria and slovenia when he reunited the german people. Also: Plzen is the town in Bohemia where pilsner beer originated from, which is the style of every large american brew sold in this country....
Oh, I get it. Pete is really celebrating the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Nazis by holding his event here.

Here is one, boys and girls. Sounds like one of those guys that celebrates the sinking of the Slocum every year with an event that duplicates the previous year event down to the tiniest detail - including displaying the German Imperial flag of red, white, and black.
Yes Pilsen is in Bohemian. And the Polka is from Bohemia. And no, they are not German - the Sutenland had a German minority but they were only there for a few hundred years- and are gone since WW II.
Bohemia is Czech - slavic.
Actually there is a lesson here, because appeasement, if nazis or developers (well is there any differnce?), you get nowhere.
