Officials still have not identified the species of bacteria that spiked in population after last month's heavy rain, but bacteria levels along the shore of Little Neck Bay were expected to return to normal levels. Still, the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Web site continued to list a 48-hour advisory against swimming at Douglas Manor on Tuesday.
Douglas Manor still unsafe to swim in: City
Douglas Manor was closed down more than any other beach in Queens last year, while the New York City-Long Island region experienced more closings than any other area in the nation, a recent study by a nationwide environmental nonprofit found.
Douglas Manor was found to have 14 closings or advisories between June and August 2006 for a variety of health-related issues, including sewage overflow resulting from heavy rains, said Sarah Chasis, director of NRDC's Oceans Initiative.

This scenic vista is ruined by the crappy Lakeside Tower building in the distance. (If possible, please crop it out of the photo.)
You can spend big $$$$$$$ for a water view villa
but I wouldn't swim off their beach
for even more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ at anytime!
I didn't know there were places to swim on the East River in Queens, unless you own a waterfront mansion in Malba, Douglaston or Whitestone.
The closest public beach on the North Shore is Bar Beach in Hempstead Harbor, where non-Nassau residents pay a toll.
Douglaston is very hostile to outsiders. When I attempted to fish along the shoreline on several occasions I was told to leave by their private security task force.
I wouldn't eat any fish
that I caught in Douglas Manor either.
Did they landmark their fish too?
No....they've been already too genetically altered
by pollution!
You mean like fish with 5 eyes and two heads...yikes!
I don't think that's Lakeside Towers, it's the Bayclub.
Yes, I think you're right about that. My mistake, though not much of a one. Both buildings are pretty much eyesores.
A-h-h-h......to the manor born......
but don't go near the water.
