Beaches Get Poor Grades in Report by Monitor
Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn, Orchard Beach in the Bronx, South Beach on Staten Island and Rockaway Beach in Queens were graded as challenged.
Coney Island/Brighton Beach in Brooklyn and Wolfe’s Pond Beach on Staten Island were given unsatisfactory grades.

I wouldn't want to go to any of these polluted beaches. I'd sooner swim in the flooded L.I.E. below.
I just returned from a long vacation, and I often wonder... Isn't almost every public feature throughout the boroughs, & particularly in Queens, degraded? Shame on the mayor's lack of concern for ALL boroughs. That includes select councilmembers (you know who you are!)
Downtown Brooklyn gets a swimming pool barge with views of Manhattan, while existing pools remain neglected. The city would rather develop a beach in the ultra-chic Hudson River Park before fixing up the existing beaches.
Hey, what is needed is another million people!
But who cares, with all the luxory housing denying the regular folks access to the waterfront, let them get a good wiff of this gunk when they go out on their balcony.
Makes a nice counterpoint to the Con Ed generating stacks on the next block.
Many of the luxury condo towers have their own rooftop pools. The rest of us are forced to deal with either the overpriced Jones Beach tolls, the dirty public pools, or the city beaches.
I'm gonna pull the cover off my cesspool and convert it into a combo hot tub/swimming pool !
I'd rather risk skinny dipping in that mess rather than trust putting a toe into NYC's public beach water !
