At least this developer saved a tree
Some time ago, QC brought you an editorial from the Daily News which offered praise to a developer in Woodside for saving a centuries-old tree on his property. Above is part the complex he built. (It was too wide to get a shot of the entire property.)
And these are the homes across the street. Good job on the tree, bad job on the condo design.

i must say that as new constuction goes this one is not as bad as some others i have seen. it has some style to it. i don't understand why all these buildings have balconies. they are almost never used and you can't cook on them or store stuff on them so what is the purpose. it can't be for looks because they look like sh!t. especially after a few years of acid rain and pollution.
This is the boring design that I don't understand. Would it have been that much more trouble to include window treatments or transoms or other nicer aesthetic elements?
Even the developer's sign is generic & cheap. Kudos for saving the tree, but what big feet you have...
Anonymous #1 -- I lived in a similar type building begofe saving enough to buy a house. I had a balcony and it was a good place to go when I needed fresh air, but did not want to get dressed to go outside. I also left many plants on the balcony.
Maybe it's saved for the moment !
Has the critically sensitive root zone of this tree been compromised by excavating for the foundation ? !!!
We live in hope !
