The new bottle bill - bigger, not better

Here's another waste of our time and money:

Push to add deposit to more beverage containers

NYC already has mandatory curbside recycling. Therefore, not only is the current deposit not necessary, but even less so is expanding the program to include non-carbonated beverage containers. In fact, all the deposit does now is encourage trespassing and littering by those looking to salvage bottles from trash before it is put out for collection by DSNY.

Maybe "Pinky" Gallagher can subsidize his "libation" budget by trash can diving for deposit bottles!

may the truth be told that now it is clear why Gabe T.pulled his stunt before the jpca . Just know that no matter what Margret K. does for "Pinky" the voters of our district will NOT support him

Perhaps Queens Crap should visit any shoreline in Queens. Much of the litter you will find there consists of bottles and cans that have no deposit - far more than the cans with deposits. And in case you haven't noticed, those "trespassers" are also getting waste out of the garbage stream that would otherwise fill landfills.

The latest thing is burglars pretending to be can collectors and entering property in order to commit crime. Rescind the deposit already.

Do you honestly expect me to believe that the same people who are throwing bottles into the street, down sewers and into the water are holding onto the ones with deposits? HA HA HA HA HA!!! The bums are combing the shoreline and picking them up after they finish raiding our garbage cans. I am sick of cleaning up behind them.

What's wrong with picking bottles out of a trash can? For some unfortunate people, it's a living. It means less labor for sanitation workers, who must separate glass from plastic.

As long as the bums do not trespass into my trash can, I support this bill. If the bums wish to pick through the can on the street corner, it is their choice.

The bums enter private property nowadays to collect the cans. Don't you understand that they have to start scrounging well in advance of the collection date? Once it goes out to the curb, there's too much competition.

This sounds like a Bloomberg clone. Let them live off of nickels!

Find out again how many millions and millions of "deposit" dollars are kept by the bottlers.

Increasing the "deposit" will result in increasing the unearned dollars to the bottlers.

Are bottlers a special interest, mayhaps? Hmmmm!
