Although I left my hometown 30 years ago, I share his sentiments 100 percent. On the rare occasion I go back, I don't recognize the Flushing I knew. Nothing is familiar.
The new construction is ugly and often times, massive. More troublesome to me are the bars, wrought iron and stainless steel, on the windows and doors on these new buildings. It gives me a feeling that Flushing isn't safe anymore. And that I simply cannot relate to.

Unfortunately...... this has become an all too familiar sight in Flushing south of Northern Blv'd!
I'm sure that a "nice" big brick box with window openings poked into it, to facilitate higher density squalid living, will replace what we now see !!!
What happened to Elmhurst is a shame, what happened to Flushing is a crime.
The clubhouse that did this is still in place, and like their Con Ed disaster in western Queens, has managed to deflect blame, thank you.
