Brooklyn crap, part 2

Well, as the title says, this one is not in Queens (and thank God for that). However, on top of being so astoundingly hideous, there seems to be something not quite right about this, so QC finds it necessary to share it with you.

This space contains multiple buildings on one tax lot at Harrison Avenue and Wallabout Street in Bushwick. How they got away with that is an interesting question.
A better question may be how the self-certified plans for the 16 units in the structure pictured under "R6" zoning were approved, when the zoning map for this area clearly indicates that the lot is zoned M1-2: for light manufacturing, and it sits across the street from an M3-1 zone: for heavy manufacturing.

But wait, there's still more crap... a permit to add on an attic for "accessory uses" was approved last year and it was completed. Does the top floor look like it's being used for "accessory purposes" to you?

Notice it has a twin in the rear.

Definitely one of the most hideous buildings I've ever come across. Shame on you, developola!!!!!!!!

The self certification process and a lazy, backward and (still) corrupt DOB is why these things are still getting through !

It's been determined and proven that (in the outer boroughs) at least 90% of building code violations occur through the self cert program by which architects can approve their own work without (in most cases) having a Dept. of Buildings plans examiner sign off on their jobs !

How come the self cert program is still on the law books ? Ask your local NYC branch of the AIA (American Institute of Assholes) who lobby for and support it !!!

This Williamsburg residence appears to belong to the Satmar hasidim, a politically influential religious group that always gets their way. They vote as a bloc, ensuring that their preferred candidate wins.

Priced out and crowded out of Williamsburg, the Satmars have recently opened a yeshiva in Queens on a former manufacturing site.

That is easy.

Thank the politicians for doing nothing to help their districts.

Thank the newspapers for saying nothing.

Oh yes, thank the preservation community for being ineffective.

I agree completely with this assessment. All down Flushing Avenue, former manufacturing properties have been converted almost overnight into giant apartment buildings for Hasids. I have never seen buildings go up so fast, but they are trying to keep up with the reproduction rate of their population, where the typical couple has 10 or more kids.

Do the people on the upper floors think that Spiderman is going to burglarize their apartments? Why the gates on the windows?

Were those balconies originally rust-colored or is that actual rust?

Did you know that a large number of Hasids are on the NYC welfare rolls because of their large families that they apparently find difficult to support?

Yeah, they have their own housing projects, too. This could pass for one of them.

That's the ugliest god-damn thing I've ever seen. And I've seen Dick Cheney naked!

The balconies must have stars above them, in order to be used for the Sukkot holiday meals.

Why not just place the Sukkot tents on the rooftops instead?
