War memorial vs. living memorial

In further coverage of the historic tree grove/Korean War memorial controversy, Newsday reports that Planting a monument may damage a grove.

The plant advocates shouldn't worry, Queens Borough parks commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski said.

Oh well if Dottie is on the case, I am sure it will all work out. Let's remember that she is taking care of every acre of Flushing Meadow Park, which is in great shape.

That memorial never belonged in Kissena Park to begin with. It should have been placed with the other war memorials in downtown Flushing where it could be seen not shuttled off to a back woods site!

H-m-m-m....I smell pandering to some interest groups and public opinion!

The previous poster is absolutely correct. Years ago, Julia Harrison asked me to come to her office when the dicussions began about this Memorial. Being a JWV, I was at one, maybe two meetings with these guys. The one thing everyone agreed on, at that time, was the location. It was supposed to be located on Northern Boulevard with the rest of the war memorials.
