For years, Shellbank Basin in Howard Beach has given off a horrible stench in the hot summer months. Last week, the Department of Environmental Protection pitched a permanent solution to members of Community Board 10:
Plant Planned to Remove Howard Beach Odors

Meanwhile, scientists hypothesize that a Cleaning agent is tied to abnormalities in Jamaica Bay.

So, what kind of fish has Pinky been eating that makes him such a girlie boy crybaby?
Is it possible that DEP could install some of that Aeration equipment in city hall to eliminate the year-round stench?
There's a lot more than that Basin that stinks in Howard Beach. Have you see the state-of-the-art gaudiness in that part of Queens? That has got to be the capital of Queens when it comes to overdevelopment.
By 2010, pretty much all of that mary-on-the-half-shell area is going to be either concrete, brick paver, or 5000-square-feet "one-family McMansions."
A new theme park is in progress...."Goombah Land At Don Cheecho Beach" where cement is king!
However, Howard Beach is not getting very much of the "knock one down build two more" crap. I'll take McMansions over that anyday.
They're beyond ugly....these pretentious Mc Mansions! My family calls them "Ginny Woppers"....now that's Italian!
Some of these opinions are the words of bigots. Bigoted comments like them diminish the value of this blog in combatting overdevelopment. Makes me wonder if it's about overdevelopment or something else entirely.
"...comments like them diminish the value of this blog..."
Very true. Same goes for the personal insults, including comments about any politician's personal appearance.
What's wrong with Italians making fun of Italians? The Sopranos do it all the time and most Italians think that show is great.
Comments about a politician's personal appearance are fair game. They always draw George Bush with big ears. So what?
Yes you shouldn't call Dennis Gallagher "Pinky" anymore. He reads the site regularly, gets offended and goes running to Tom Ognibene. After he is calmed down with a shot of whisky, he starts typing nonsense on his own blog, which is now being monitored by both the NYPD and DOI. Actually...in that case, maybe you should kick it up a notch or two.
Who said something anti-Italian? Verdi is Italian. You'd think being one, he'd spell the word "guinea" right, but hey...
Let's pass a moratorium on the word "guinea."
Idiot....I'm spelling "guinea" phonetically (ginny) so's a people like a youse cudda read it!
And if I'm ashamed of SOME of my fellow Italian Americans....I'll call them what I please....you Cucumber (And you can do the translation and proper spelling of the previous word)!
There's a letter to the editor of the Howard Beach newspaper, the Forum South, that nails the inherent anti-Italian bigotry some of these comments reflect. They, as well as other comments about other posts, make one wonder whether it's overdevelopment this site is about or just a venting place for many forms of bigotry.
Yeah....Howard Beach is the just the right community to speak out against bigotry!
Wasn't it at one of their past parades that a float containing a bunch of anti African American spoofing local ya-hoos were photographed and criticized in the media for their blatant bigotry?
Oh, excuse me, that was an expression of "free speech"!
Methinks you doth protest too much.....last poster!
If you can't take it, don't dish it out !
P.S..........How many times have I heard Italian Americans use the term "MOOLIES" etc. when talking about
Blacks? H-m-m-m.....yeah!!!!
