I notice that the councilwoman in the article holds the surname Gallagher! Maybe she could make a deal with some local contractors to develop the parkland to keep the deer out.....(snicker)
"The Parks Department is not currently managing the deer in Pelham Bay Park because they are thought to be a transient rather than resident population. But Adrian Benepe, the parks commissioner, said that if the deer became resident, he would work with the Transportation Department to put up signs.
Mr. Benepe added that like the city’s growing populations of wild turkeys and raccoons, the deer are a welcome reminder that “the woodlands have been there for centuries, and the deer are just moving through their property.”
“It belongs to them as much as anyone else,” he said."
Of course, moron Benepe wants to lets the dogs run off the leash in the parks because he and Bloomberg know that the dogs will get along fine with the wild turkeys, raccoons and deer, because in a park, all creatures are sweet.
Isn't it funny how greens spaces everywhere are getting better, except in Queens, where trees are in the way of parking your SUV, front yards are viewed as revenue generating space, and waterfront parks and opens spaces are opportunties for infill.
I guess our polticians consider us residents of Queens to stupid and backward to wish anything else.
Actually, last year (or was it the year before), there were 3 resident deer in Alley Pond Park - it was just kept very quiet, as they did not want them bothered. One grew to 8 points, and was taken down by automobile traffic on the LIE!!

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
The above organizations are recognized by Queens Crap as being beneficial to the city as a whole, by fighting to preserve the history and character of our neighborhoods.
