From the Queens Tribune:
To The Editor,
Let’s assemble in Flushing Meadows Corona Park with sledgehammers and pickaxes and demolish all of the tennis stadiums there.
The land they’re built on belongs to us. The City had no right to give it away. They never would try doing something similar with acreage in Central Park, mainly because the rich people who saunter about, there, would never tolerate it.
Flushing Meadows Corona Park, by contrast, is mostly used by lower and middle class residents like you and I. Lacking political clout, many of us have recently immigrated to the U.S. and aren’t all that familiar with our rights. Taking advantage of this, the City has stolen our land right out from under us and given it away to those same stinking rich people who are mainly the ones who attend tennis matches.
So along with sledgehammers and pickaxes let’s bring wheelbarrows to Flushing Meadows Corona Park, too. That way, if we encounter any rich riffraff we’ll be able to cart them back to their Manhattan luxury condos. For in all honesty, if they look down their noses at us one more time while we’re hanging out in the park with our kids, they might just get their faces spat on.
They’ve got their houses in the Hamptons and tropical island resorts, after all, so let them leave us our environmentally anemic parks, at least.

Someday, this just may happen, and it won't be pretty!
Do you know that a Flushing Meadow Conservency exists (surprise) and its head is Aida Gonzalez (jaw drop)?
Obviously these people are serious about cleaning things up.
Real serious.
To Ken Klinger,
You described yourself in the exact way that Bloomberg looks at you (and me and all of us:) as loathesome Little People.
The Tennis set are precious, cocktail party types who depend on the likes of us to pick up after them, and to never look at them or make any demands on them. These are Bloomberg's people. You and I exist (in his mind) to shut up, pay taxes, and stay out of sight!)
If Bloomberg and his cohorts want your home, just surrender to your betters. Forget about it being YOUR park!
It was Sid Davidoff, I believe, and his tennis partner David Dinkins that were part of the sell out of Flushing Meadows Corona Park to the United Tennis Ass'n interests.
Davidoff Melito & Partners represented Tommy Huang, among many "notables". Isn't Evan Stavisky's "Parkside" tight with them?
This borough's government is as crooked as a country road!
May I remind everyone how the mayor felt about the tennis stadium (and the construction of baseball replacements) in 2004.
Have a safe day!
Alan
(Get it) lets get this party started right
Right on, c'mon
