Why won't everyone admit that the funds to restore the NY State Pavilion just aren't there, and it's time to demolish this wreck? It's been sitting unused now for 42 years, slowly falling apart. Sentimentality is fine, but let's get real.
The Eiffel Tower of Queens continues to be neglected by our city. If I had the strength, I'd climb this tower and unfurl a banner of protest against the Parks Department and the new "Citi Field."
Hey...."demolish this wreck"......we're talking about a structure designed by the world renown American architect Phillip Johnson......who by the way..... is responsible for designing the opera house at Lincoln Center!
You're obviously an NYC Parks Department ass kisser and an ignorant Barbarian!
Where's Benepe's and Cooper's senior manager? Screwing us with our money.
The dim-witted Bloomberg is delighted to see our $60,000 spent to replace 3 lightbulbs.
His dim-witted failure to manage these people placed airline passengers in mortal danger. Oh, yeah. What does Dimberg care? He only flies private airlines, while only Little People must fly the commercial flights and had no warning of Dimberg's arrogant, impudent failure to perform simple tasks.
Guys, the entire borough is managed like this. Queens is shabby. And those that can do something about it don't care.
They spend money only on social programs of dubious worth and whose purpose is to win votes.
And if you are working 10 or 12 hours a day at below minimum wage, the Meadows are perfectly fine for soccor and cookouts as far as 99% of Flushing Meadow users are concerned.
So outside of a few voices that get the odd pat on the head, nothing is going to change unless you get them out of office.
Not a barbarian, just a realist. After 42 years of neglect, the NYS Pavilion is probably beyond salvaging. What would it be used for anyway, just something to look at like the Unisphere? Even if it was found to be repairable (very doubtful at this point) it makes no sense to spend tens of millions of dollars on it. Fix some of the buildings on Ellis Island that have real historical significance. Priorities, please.

I must digress. If the city can spend more than 100 million on the High Line in Manhattan, which in my opinion should be torn down, then they can spend 80 million for a museum or amusement at the Pavilion here in Queens. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone over the age of 50 who lived within 200 miles of NYC in 1964-65 who didn't attend the world's fair. It's as integral to the fabric of NYC history as Ellis Island is.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap

Benepe and Cooper are the king & queen of "dim bulbs" averaging 4 watts between them!
Unscrew them and dump them out of office!
Those two can't screrw in a light bulb but they can certainly screw us.
What in inept Parks Department, what an inept borough, what an inept city!

How many mayors does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None.
The mayor would first have to know what a lightbulb actually is.

And that is not going to happen any time soon.
