The problem is that Baysiders were too late in waking up to the looming spectre of overdevelopment that had already hit neighborhoods further to the west, which was headed their way.

Like Ostriches with their heads buried in the sand, they were into denial for so long they became willing accomplices to these rapacious developers crimes.
They should have fought alongside their neighboring communites earlier instead of saying, "This is Baysde. It won't happen here"!
Isolationism is what gets you in the neck every time!
