Although this site focuses on overdevelopment, QC can't resist exposing the Parks Department for this stupidity:
More Damage Apparent On Toppled Monument
Central Park, Prospect Park: Well maintained flagship parks which are the best in their boroughs.
Flushing Meadows-Corona Park: An absolute dump. Filthy lakes, broken paths, closed bridges, muggings, crumbling landmarks.
Only in Queens would the Parks Department allow a monument to be seen in this condition.

"....This is not an Olmstead park....", as I personally heard one of its former directors state at a meeting we attended some 18 years ago. The implication being: They can "'develop- the- hell- out- of -it" (which they did) without major consequenses! There's no powerful Central Park Conservancy here to protect it! So a toppled monument is just a chip off the old block and hardly important! This, after all, is Queens. We live in the provinces!
