Mayor Bloomberg is concerned that David Weprin's bill might hurt the bottom lines of his friends in the real estate industry:

Yes, Your Honor, that's the point!

Well, who do we turn to?
When it comes to development, there is not a 'dime's worth of difference' between the Republicans and Democrates.
The Greens should provide a third way, promoting sensible things like zero population growth (remember that from your tie-dyed bell bottom days - well let's bring it back!)
Even though he is a Manhattan resident , I cast my vote to make His Honor an honorary piece of "Queens crap"!
Development needs to be "hindered". In fact, It should be slowed down a lot. A moritorium would be an even better idea! A lot of the new building that's going on is ugly, shoddily built and damn dangerous! Mayor Mike is not in favor of the "checks and balances" that are essential to Democracy. What can you expect from a totalitarian mind! He's been running NYC like he does his own financial firm.......total one man control! And if you don't approve, your fired! Gee, just like on "The Apprentice". Similar minds....similar sleeze!
If the firm of Mc Kim Meade & White were the types of architects that would be doing all the building in Queens, I would trust the "self certification" program. Unfortunately, we get a convicted felon like Tommy Huang who builds his questionable crap all over our borough! Would you let a fox guard the chicken coop?
Of course Bloomberg hates to see a crimp put in that cash flow pipeline which runs directly from the builders into the various politicos pockets .The "self-cert" program has streamlined this process!
Let's not forget "America's Mayor". He will be hitting the campaign trail soon.

Ugh. I just threw up a little in my mouth.
Oh yeah! I remember that guy. Didn't he go along with the EPA and "allow" the workers to continue cleaning up ground zero without the appropriate safety gear? How many people are sick, dying or dead from that decision? Many of the developmental woes in NYC started with his administration, if memory serves me.
I am a member of the Green Party. They're a joke in Queens. In Europe they're great! I'm switching back to being a Democrat so I won't be locked out of the primary!
Tried to link an old NYT article about Guiliani-era self certification, but it didn't work.

If not, try searching for "where builders are inspectors"
I think that it's a good idea to demand some testing be done now (water, air and soil) so that a base line can be established in the event that health issues come up later on, as they did at the World Trade Center site. Doctoroff and Bloomberg would be criminally irresponsible if they try to minimize the possibility of any impact on the health of nearby residents!
