Remember the Forgotten-NY Tour of Maspeth? If the LIE trench were covered with a park, not only would it allow for great views of the Fourth of July Fireworks, but also reunite a torn neighborhood with a "town square."
In Astoria, covering up Grand Central Parkway would turn a service road into a true "Astoria Boulevard," as its name suggests.
Covering highway trenches with parks should be our version of the High Line.
I think that instead of all of this building up to the sky, we should be building further down. If we have to live like rats let's at least live under ground where we might meet a better class of politicians!
In upper Manhattan, apartments are on a deck over the expressway between the G W Bridge and the Bronx.
Kids were found to be sick from the fumes. Anyone want to mention that the next time someone talks about roofing over highways or railroads for housing?
No one is going to spend the money and effort to deck these areas for the enjoyment of the people that live there. The person in your district will automatically be reelected to their office, or with term limits, you will elect their appointed substitute, so what is their incentive to do anything for you?

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
The above organizations are recognized by Queens Crap as being beneficial to the city as a whole, by fighting to preserve the history and character of our neighborhoods.
